Bowl of Cherries or Just the Pits?

Last night we started working on making Maraschino Cherries to can. The first step is pitting the cherries. We had approximately 10 pounds of cherries to pit. Here is the final of the first step.

We also save the pits. Later we will help my mom treat the pits so we can make cherry pit bags for winter warmth. For now we will just freeze the pits.

In a few days I will show you more pictures so you can enjoy this lengthy process with us. The kids sure are hoping for maraschino cherries on their ice cream sundaes.
