How-To Tuesday (Cleaning your Dishwasher)

It might sound a bit funny that you should clean an appliance meant for cleaning your dishes but it really does need to be done on occassion. You can get food built up in the filter or even mold and bacteria growing where water puddles up. Here are a couple budget ideas for cleaning your dishwasher. Always clean the filter trap out first use your owners manual for directions.
  1. Vinegar - This is what I use most often. Run an empty cycle with about 1 cup of white vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher.
  2. Citrus flavored unsweetened kool-aid - Dump a packet in the soap door or in the bottom of the dishwasher and run a cycle.
  3. Bleach & water solution - This is to use if you have a mold problem. The bleach will kill any mold growing.

Short and sweet but that should leave you with a clean appliance that will appreciate being maintained.
