Last week I was thrilled to utilize the strawberry pyramid my hubby and I made last year. Last year we got so busy we forgot to plant our strawberry roots until they were beyond the hope of planting. I was not going to make the same mistake again. I bought roots two weeks ago at Menards and we planted them on Thursday. Over the weekend we were gone with our three boys to a Boy Scout Camporee and when we returned we were thrilled the rainy weekend brought leaves to our strawberry roots. For thirty roots we paid only $9.63 after tax. That is about 4-5 pounds of fresh strawberries by my grocery market prices. The fun thing is strawberries come back every year. I wonder how many pounds of free strawberries that will total? I hope for a decent first year crop but I bet it will be a good return on my investment.
Right after planting strawberry roots.
One week after planting and we have leaves.
