How-To Tuesday (Lazy Man's German Chocolate Cake)

It is Jesse's birthday tomorrow but we are celebrating tonight because Andrew will be working tomorrow evening.  I always let each family member pick a dessert for their birthday and it doesn't have to be cake (sometimes it isn't either).  Jesse chose to have German Chocolate cake and the family is thrilled with his choice.  This recipe is something my mom has passed onto the family.  I love the simplicity of starting with a cake mix but making something so much more special!  You would never think this cake is from a cake mix.  I haven't taken time do step by step pictures but here is one of the final project.
Lazy Man's German Chocolate Cake
Cake:
1 white cake mix
1 small box of instant chocolate pudding mix (we use chocolate fudge)
2 cups of milk
2 eggs

Beat well and pour into a greased 9x13 cake pan.  Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.  Cool cake and then frost.

Frosting:
1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 egg yolks

Beat well and cook on medium heat until thick on the stove.  Beat until cooled and then add 1 cup chopped nuts (we use pecans) and 1 cup coconut.
