Hope of Refuge Blog Tour & Giveaway

I am so excited to have the opportunity to participate in the Hope of Refuge Blog Tour. A few weeks back I received Cindy Woodsmall's new book Hope of Refuge and I can't wait to tell you about it!Hope of Refuge is the first book in the Ada's House Series. The 352 page book does not take long to entwine you in it's pages. If you would like informatin on where to purchase this book click on the bookcover above.

Cara is a recently widowed late 20's single mother of Lori. They live in New York city and bounce from home to home running from a man stalking Cara. Cara does her best trying to work for quick cash and avoiding the assistance system which gives her stalker an opportunity to track her whereabouts but when he finds her yet again she has a choice to make. Even though Cara has little money she will do anything to keep her daughter safe.
Memories from Cara's childhood lead her and Lori away from New York to a small Amish community in Dry Lake, Pennsylvania. Cara is not welcomed to this closed community with open arms but one man Ephraim Mast takes on a challenge from God to "be me to her". Even helping Cara may risk his being part of the Amish community but Ephraim holds a secret of his own.
Next enters the characters of Mahlon (an Amish man) , Deborah (Ephraim's sister) and Ada (Mahlon's mother). Deborah and Mahlon are engaged to be married. The prescence of Cara is causing much tension in Deborah's family but all she is concerned about is her upcoming wedding and the fact her groom-to-be is acting strangly. Mahlon's actions are also starting to worry his mother Ada. Will Mahlon stop acting so reserved or ever settle down with Deborah?
Ada becomes a person on strength and wisdom for both Cara and Deborah. With age comes wisdom and both of these women desparately need a mother figure. What will Ada teach them both that will release them from their pasts.

Once again, I was finding it rather hard to put down a book written by Cindy Woodsmall. I love how she found a way to entwine the modern and Amish worlds into one story. Her style of writing is so enchanting you cannot help but continue to turn the pages. This is a real life story possibly beyond what most of us will experience but one that we can relate to the emotions of the characters. I highly recommend that you pick up this book and read it with your heart!

If you would like to see an interview with Cindy Woodsmall on Nightline you can go HERE.

Frugal traveling tip...
Try to book a hotel that provides breakfast and take an apple or banana for snack later. Can't find that kind of hotel? Bring your own breakfast (milk can be stored in the tiny fridge). Way cheaper (and healthier) than going out.
Use price line to book hotels... it's awesome!

My tip is to stay with family or friends. Traveling by car we always pack a cooler full of beverages and snacks therefore saving on stopping and eating in restaurants on our way.

Before you travel, do an on-line search for Internet coupons for places on your travel route and at your destination. Look for special offers for hotels, restaurants, and attractions. You can save money while you're on the road!

My frugal tip is to find free [or nearly free] events at our vacation destination site - we did this a lot when my children were small. National and state parks with ranger talks or hands-on activities for kids, historic sites, small museums, art shops [where you can just browse and enjoy local artists' work], and community concerts are just a few of the events available for traveling families.

My truly "frugal" tip is to stay-cation! I rarely travel, because it costs so much. But when I do, I take snacks and reading material to avoid spending exorbitant prices at the airport.

If you are going to be staying at a hotel, get one with a kitchen. A kitchen unit costs a little more, but it is still cheaper to cook rather than eat in restaurants.

My tip would be while on vacation when you are going to be gone for the day...pack a lunch to take a long with you. That will save you tons of money instead of not taking one and having to keep on stopping somewhere to eat.

To travel frugally we pack as much food/drinks from home as possible.

we like to travel frugally by booking the hotel online far in advance. we also do a lot of the cooking ourselves, so we don't have to pay to eat out.

One of the things we do to travel frugally is to eat really big breakfasts (they are usually the cheapest meal) and then skip lunch and then eat dinner.

If you're flying , pack your own snacks (except for drinks since you can't pass security with them ) because they charge an arm and a leg for them in the airport and eat before you leave home. The snacks will especially come in handy if you are changing planes and the second one is delayed a long time because of weather.
